The Chinese manufacturer Great Wall Motor, with great international reach, intensifies its operations in Latin America and announces production of electric vehicles in Brazil.
The company started manufacturing models at the plant located in the state of São Paulo, where it will start selling the units produced in Brazil during the second half of 2024.
The announcement was made by the Vice-President of Brazil, Geraldo Alckmin, during a visit to the plant. At the meeting, the Asian company showed a pick-up, confirming that it will be based on the Poer, but with the exception that it will be a globally unprecedented version.
It will be a hybrid variant of the well-known pick-up, which will also have a new look, a more sophisticated interior and “many screens”.

Other Proposals
The other model that Great Wall will manufacture in Brazil will be a seven-seat SUV. It will also be based on the Poer pickup truck and will have a beam chassis. Like the pickup, it will feature a 2.0-liter turbocharged combustion engine.
“I was in Iracemápolis (SP) today, accompanying Vice President Geraldo Alckmin. GWM Brazil’s new production base is almost ready to operate,” said Igor Calvet, President of the Agência Brasileira de Desenvolvimento Industrial (ABDI).
“Electric vehicles, whether hybrid or electric, are on their way, and it is good to know that, after years of policy maturation, new technologies are entering the country, modernizing the productive park, increasing competition, providing consumer welfare and generating new (and better) jobs,” he stressed.
Over the next ten years, Great Wall will invest US$ 2 billion in its first plant outside Asia to expand its production capacity from 20,000 units per year to 100,000.
