Commercialization and Advertising of Electric Vehicles in Chile Soars

The commercialization of electric vehicles in Chile continues to boom significantly, supported by government initiatives such as the National Electromobility Strategy, and the contribution of private enterprise through representative investments.

In October 2021, the Ministry of Energy published the strategy with a series of principles and measures that favor the electric vehicle market, with the goal of selling only zero-emission cars by 2035.

According to a measurement carried out by Chileautos, there is a 146% increase in hybrid car sales publications and a 94% increase in electric cars.

Likewise, the report highlights an increase in the purchase of new low and zero emission vehicles, registering an accumulated increase of 32.3% during the first quarter of the year, compared to the same period of 2022, according to data from the National Automotive Association of Chile (ANAC).

Chileautos’ Numbers

As for the average price of cars published in Chileautos, although for electric cars it fell by 5.6%, overall the price of this category (electric + hybrids) grew by 11% between March 2022 and March this year, driven mainly by hybrids (26%).

Caroline Klee, Marketing Manager Latam Carsales-Chileautos, said that although the publications are still low with respect to the universe of vehicles published, reaching less than 1%, they observe that are systematically increasing year by year, which shows a greater interest in this type of vehicles.

The executive stated that they believe that as this type of technology becomes more widespread and values go down, consumers will begin to opt for these vehicles.

“They pollute less and generate benefits such as higher performance, especially conventional hybrids, which do not need extra factors such as a charging network”.
