Brazil Signs Agreement with the University of Birmingham to Promote Sustainable Train Transport

The Ministry of Transport of Brazil and the University of Birmingham have established an agreement with the aim of sharing experiences to promote more efficient, safe, and sustainable railway transport.

The signed memorandum of understanding includes the creation of bilateral research, teaching, and training programs, valid for five years.

In this regard, Renan Filho, Minister of Transport, stated that cooperation is of great importance for the improvement of railway transport in Brazil.

“The University of Birmingham is a reference in the UK’s railway system. This collaboration will allow us to progress in efficiency, safety, sustainability, and expansion of our railways’ capacity,” he commented.

The partnership also includes communication and knowledge transfer between the academic, governmental, and industrial sectors. It encompasses eight areas of study, including logistics efficiency, sustainable transport infrastructure, and safety.

“It is crucial to have the experience of the University of Birmingham in developing the National Railway Policy. It is an institution that has long been advancing in sustainability and efficiency studies in the sector. Combined with Brazilian expertise, we can build the railway network that our country deserves,” said Leonardo Ribeiro, National Secretary of Rail Transport.
