Bogotá leads the region in bike lanes connected to TransMilenio

Bogotá promotes bicycle use with an extensive network of bike lanes and safe spaces like TransMiBici, connected to the TransMilenio system.

The capital of Colombia is becoming a benchmark in Latin America thanks to its extensive network of bike lanes, which, with 374 kilometers of exclusive lanes, leads the region.

According to information provided by the Bogotá Mayor’s Office, this system, complemented by the TransMiBici initiative, encourages bicycle use as an ecological and efficient alternative for daily commutes.

The growth in bicycle use has been remarkable in recent years, leading to the implementation of TransMiBici, a free service offering 7,351 spaces across 26 stations of the TransMilenio system.

These spaces are designed to be safe, comfortable, and accessible, allowing users to leave their bicycles while continuing their journey on public transportation.

To use TransMiBici, users must follow some recommendations, such as registering their bicycles with security personnel, securing them with a lock, and removing the lock when leaving.

Additionally, users must have the BiciBogotá registration, a mandatory requirement to access this service.

The city’s mayor’s office highlights that Bogotá’s commitment to sustainable mobility not only aims to reduce the environmental footprint but also to provide integrated options that improve citizens’ quality of life.
