The Santiago Fire Department (CBS) announced the arrival of Latin America’s first fully battery-powered fire truck.
Gabriel Huerta, superintendent of the Santiago Fire Department, explained that the vehicle symbolizes the continuous effort to improve operational efficiency and reduce the environmental impact of their activities.
The project was assigned to the 5th Fire Company of Santiago and involves an investment of nearly 1.5 million dollars, funded through a tripartite scheme with contributions from private companies SQM Lithium and Copec Voltex, as well as CBS itself.

Features
It is an electric fire truck with a 4×4 traction system and a turning radius 50% smaller than traditional trucks, thanks to rear wheels that can adjust to follow the turn. It includes several features designed specifically for firefighting.
- Capacity: Can carry up to nine people.
- Energy: Equipped with 132 kWh of energy capacity.
- Pumping power: Can pump 5,600 liters of water per minute.
- Charging: Batteries can be recharged in just 45 minutes.
One of its notable advantages in the field is that, at the emergency site, it lowers its suspension to sit at ground level, allowing for easy access to storage compartments.
