Chile: Villarrica Strengthens Rural Routes with Electric Buses

The Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications of Chile (MTT) announced a plan to improve the Public Transport System of Villarrica, aiming to provide a more efficient, accessible, and sustainable service.

This plan, which will be implemented starting in August 2025, seeks to address the needs of the local community, ensuring higher service quality and better conditions for users.

Among the main improvements are optimized frequencies during morning peak hours, reducing waiting times and improving the punctuality of routes.

This change is specifically designed to meet the high demand of passengers who need to travel in the early hours of the day, enhancing their daily mobility experience.

“As the Minister of Transport and Telecommunications on behalf of the Government of Chile, I reiterate my gratitude for this valuable donation, which will undoubtedly transform the quality of public transport for a portion of the inhabitants of the Chacabuco Province,” emphasized Juan Carlos Muñoz, the Minister of Transport and Telecommunications.

Additional Measures

Another measure is the commitment to ensure greater regularity in services through constant monitoring of routes and schedules to avoid disruptions and provide greater reliability.

Additionally, the MTT has indicated that a significant fare reduction will be introduced, directly benefiting the citizens’ budgets and encouraging the use of public transport as the preferred option over other means of transportation.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Transport is working in parallel on implementing cleaner and more efficient technologies, as part of its commitment to protecting the environment.

In addition to the immediate benefits, the public transport plan in Villarrica aligns with the national objectives of promoting more inclusive, sustainable, and connected cities. The community has already expressed optimism about these initiatives, which promise to significantly improve the quality of life for the region’s residents.

“These buses will launch in January as part of a pilot operation plan in the commune of Colina to improve connectivity between this area of the Metropolitan Region and the Los Libertadores Intermodal Station. Through services R1, R2, and R3, the residents of Peldehue, Casas Chacabuco, and Chamisero will receive higher-quality transportation services,” concluded Muñoz.
