The Red Movilidad de Chile system announced the replacement of 50 diesel buses with electric units starting on February 10, projecting that by the end of the year, three out of five vehicles in the fleet will be zero-emission.
The Minister of Transport, Juan Carlos Muñoz, stated that this is very good news for the system and for the goal of bringing electric mobility to the regions.
“One of the goals we set as a Government was for electromobility to reach all sectors of the capital, and we are achieving it,” he said.

“These 50 new electric buses that will serve the northwestern area of Santiago will significantly improve the travel experience for passengers,” said Muñoz.
He assured that it will improve the journeys of the residents of the Quilicura, Renca, Independencia, Conchalí, and Santiago districts.
The Director of Metropolitan Public Transport (DTPM), Paola Tapia, highlighted that the addition of new electric buses will become a reality starting on Monday, February 10, for the residents of Quilicura and the northwestern districts of Santiago, who will see more electric buses on their streets, replacing the green buses they had until now.
Tapia detailed that these are 50 buses equipped with WiFi, air conditioning, and, most importantly, clean energy, covering nine routes, and aimed at territorial equity, something that has been strongly promoted and will be further strengthened this year with more electromobility and the addition of more than 1,200 new electric buses to the Red Movilidad system.
In this regard, the Ministry of Transport stated that “this addition of buses marks the beginning of a 2025 that will be defined by fleet modernization, with the addition of 1,267 new electric buses in the capital, further advancing electromobility“.
