ALD Automotive: Biofuels and efuels Offer a Real Solution to Transport Decarbonization

In the tough race to massify electric mobility, elements and technologies continue to emerge to accelerate the process and meet the Sustainable Development Goals, taking into account that transportation is one of the main polluting sectors today.

In this sense, one of the leading companies in Renting, ALD Automotive, highlights how e-fuels and biofuels contribute to the decarbonization process.

The Head of Business Intelligence Consultancy at ALD Automotive and promoter for the electric mobility transition in the company, Salvador Lopez, analyzed the differences between what are postulated as the fuels of the future.

In an interview published on the company’s website, the executive explained that biofuels are those obtained from the treatment of organic matter, applying both physical and chemical treatment to obtain them.

It is, therefore, a type of fuel that is not considered to be 100% clean, although they manage to reduce emissions by up to 90%.

Solution to Environmental Pollution

López pointed out that synthetic fuels come from two fundamental raw materials, CO2 captured from the atmosphere and green hydrogen.

Precisely the latter is postulated as a real solution for transport decarbonization, since it is obtained from clean energies.

In the case of hydrogen, it comes from the breaking of the water molecule or what is known as the electrolysis process. If energy from green energy sources such as wind or solar energy is applied in this procedure, then the final fuel generated will be a green hydrogen with a zero carbon footprint.

According to Lopez, green hydrogen is a fuel with a zero carbon footprint, which can be used as an energy source in vehicle mobility.

He said it can be used in hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, or in traditional diesel or gasoline combustion vehicles that replace these fuels with green hydrogen for combustion.

Thus, according to the expert and representative of ALD Automotive, with such interesting applications in mobility, green hydrogen will be a real revolution in energy, because with a zero carbon footprint, is postulated as a real alternative to the decarbonization of transportation.

An Established Global Company

ALD Automotive was founded in 1946 as one of the pioneering ALD Renting companies in Europe and the world, with a fleet of more than 3 million vehicles.

One of the company’s main objectives is to achieve sustainable development, which is why it invests considerable resources in presenting efficient solutions to reduce CO2 emissions and lower fleet management costs.
