Atlas Renewable Energy, a power generation company which develops, builds and operates projects with long-term contracts throughout the Americas, has seen its clean technology efforts pay off in 2021 with a number of awards for its environmental and inclusive work.
On November 16, the company received the Bronze category as a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DE&I) Champion from The Cleanie Awards.
Key achievements include increasing female representation internally; creating and implementing a program dedicated to promote women’s leadership skills; increasing the participation of women at the construction phase of renewable energy projects through the “We are part of the same energy” program; and focusing on minority hiring as a way to foster a more inclusive and diverse industry.
Marcela Pizzi, Head of People at Atlas Renewable Energy highlighted the importance of creating an inclusive and diverse culture that welcomes richness and diversity of opinions and experiences, both of which can help the organization and the people within it to grow.
“There are many social issues that still need to be addressed, but the fact that women are still underrepresented across the energy sector is something that needs to be worked on. That’s why we have focused on creating collaborative and safe work environments, so as not to allow unconscious biases to filter through and create artificial barriers not only for women, but for everyone within the company,” she added.
In October 2021, the Atlas “We Are Part of the Same Energy” plan was also recognized with IJGlobal’s ESG Energy Deal of the Year Award for the Americas and the ESG Social Award. This distinction was the result of the company’s commitment to diversity and inclusion through the implementation of a social program aimed at closing the gender gap in the renewable energy sector.
Another interesting result of Atlas’ efforts was represented by the 2020 Latin America Sponsor of the Year award also by IJGlobal, due to the company’s contributions to accelerate the region’s transformation to clean energy.
In addition, the company was also awarded the Solar Deal of the Year Award in Latin America for the Ananuca Financing that refinanced the Javiera Solar Plant (69.5MW) and financed the construction of the Sol del Desierto Solar Project (230MW) in Chile.
Additionally, the Latin American Private Venture Capital Association (LAVCA), dedicated to supporting private equity growth across the region, recognized Atlas Renewable Energy’s Women’s Workforce Program with the 2021 Gender and Diversity Award during the Seventh Annual Latin American Private Equity ESG Deal Awards on June 2.
The company was also recently ranked as the top clean energy developer for corporate PPAs in Latin America according to Bloomberg NEF’s 1H 2021 Corporate Energy Market Outlook, and ranked sixth globally with more than half a gigawatt contracted for private offtakers in the region.
Atlas Renewable Energy has an experienced team with the longest track record in the solar energy industry in Latin America, working hard to support the energy transition in the region.
The company is recognized for its high standards in the development, construction and operation of large-scale projects with a current portfolio of 2.2GW of contracted projects in development, construction or operation phase, and aims to expand by an additional 4GW in the coming years.
