Bimbo and Renting Colombia, Key Players in Sustainable Mobility

Since 2014, Bimbo Colombia has intensified its efforts to implement sustainable mobility, among other strategies, so that all its operations are environmentally friendly and contribute to the quality of life of its citizens.

With 25 years of operations in the country, the company has set goals and established key alliances to reduce its environmental impact. With the support of strategic partners such as Renting Colombia, Bimbo is on its way to becoming a zero-carbon company by 2050.

As part of the agreement with Renting, Bimbo acquired the first fleet of 40 light urban delivery trucks in Colombia and Latin America, 100% electric and zero polluting emissions, which began operating in 2020. During this time, the performance of the vehicles has met reliability and autonomy expectations.

Important Figures

It should be noted that Bimbo has also contracted with Renting Colombia a fleet dedicated to 100% compressed gas, in order to introduce clean energies in its distribution of medium and long distances, which began operating in June 2021.

Recently, it acquired a 100% electric VÄN fleet to load 1-ton products and 100% electric light vehicles for the bakery company’s administrative and management personnel.

Currently, 67% of the vehicles in its fleet use alternative fuels, including 40 vehicles with a capacity of 4.5 tons, generating a reduction of 267.74 tons of CO2.

In addition, the alliance has so far resulted in the elimination of a total of 358.25 tons of CO2 emissions, the equivalent of planting 25,590 trees.

For the Logistics Manager of Bimbo Colombia, Edgar Gamez, the company has a big bet to include electric fleet, since the expectation regarding the performance and reliability of electric vehicles in cargo transportation and urban delivery, has been met.

“It has performed well and we have always had the support of Renting Colombia,” he said. With more than 40,000 vehicles on the road, Renting Colombia has established itself as one of the leaders in the car rental market, generating significant dynamism in the Colombian vehicle fleet.

In Colombia, 7% of the 250,272 new cars sold in 2021 entered the rental business and for this year the share is expected to increase to 12%.
