August 9, 2023 will be another date that will be marked in the milestones and development of electromobility on a global scale. On the aforementioned date, the Chinese manufacturer, BYD, reached the figure of 5 million new energy vehicles.
It is worth noting that the company had to wait 13 years to achieve the first million cars with these characteristics, another 18 months to reach three million and, surprisingly, only 9 more months to reach the five million mark.
In 2022, BYD’s new energy vehicles experienced remarkable growth, with total sales exceeding 1.86 million.
The momentum continued in 2023, when the brand reached an impressive cumulative sales volume of 1.5 million units from January to July, including a remarkable 92,469 units sold overseas that surpassed the total overseas sales for the entire previous year.
Promising Second Half of the Year
In July 2023, BYD’s global new energy vehicle sales soared above 4.8 million cumulative units.
The Asian manufacturer has been actively expanding its global presence since 2010, strategically introducing new energy buses and cabs for the electrification of public transportation.
BYD’s electric public transport solutions are already operational in more than 400 cities, in over 70 countries. Meanwhile, BYD’s new energy vehicles have made their mark in more than 54 nations, with the BYD ATTO 3 (BYD Yuan Plus), one of its flagship models, leading NEV sales in Thailand, Israel and Singapore for several months.
In addition, the manufacturer recently announced its intention to build three new complexes in Brazil, reinforcing its role as one of the leading exponents of the low-emission automotive industry.
Wang Chuanfu, President of BYD assures that this is a historic moment for the company, as they witness their 5 millionth new energy vehicle rolling off the production line.
“On this special occasion, we would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to our customers around the world for their confidence in our products, to our industry partners for this journey together, and to each of our employees whose hard work and dedication have made this milestone possible,” he concluded.
