The National Automotive Association of Chile (ANAC) reported record figures in May for the sale of electric vehicles, in the midst of a slowdown in the sale of these units during the first half of the year.
The association detailed that in the fifth month of the year, registrations of zero or low emission vehicles increased by 133%, with a total of 1,364 units sold, and totaling 5,335 so far this year, which is equivalent to an increase of 100% compared to the same period in 2023.
According to figures reported in Chile’s La Tercera, the category of 100% electric vehicles (BEVs) experienced an expansion of 631.4% in May, accounting for a total of 373 units registered, and also accumulating a growth of 100% so far this year to 1,200 units marketed.
Other Segments
Plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models also had a strong upswing in the fifth month of the year, marking their best record as 81 units in the month (an increase of 237.5%) and totaling 372 units registered in May (up 210%).

Micro-hybrid vehicles (MHEVs) followed the same trend, adding 141.3% in May to 432 vehicles marketed, and 133.6% to May equivalent to 1,633 units accumulated.
The category of self-recharging or conventional hybrids expanded to a lesser extent. The increase in May was 56%, with a total of 465 units sold. Even so, it is the group with the highest number of units sold in the period. So far this year, it has registered 2,042 units (+83%).
The extended range electric vehicles (EREVs) have 88 units registered in our country to date.
