Coca Cola Femsa Acquires 9 Trucks with Euro V Technology for Costa Rican Operations

In line with the initiative developed by the Climate Change Directorate of the Costa Rican Ministry of Environment and Energy (MINAE), Coca Cola Femsa announced the acquisition of nine trucks equipped with Euro V technology that reduces nitrogen dioxide emissions by 60%.

The MINAE program is a voluntary mechanism for reporting greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories, demonstrating actions to reduce, remove, and offset emissions, and strengthening decarbonization.

Maricel Álvarez, Coca-Cola FEMSA‘s Corporate Affairs Manager, explained that the trucks use a system called SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction and urea) that transforms part of the polluting particles in the fuel into water vapor, which represents a 63% reduction of nitrogen oxide and 90% of particulate matter, the most polluting components present in diesel.

Álvarez emphasized that the purchase of the units responds to the company’s sustainable mobility strategy, which seeks to reduce the impact of beverage distribution on the environment.

“This investment is part of the company’s plan to lead sustainable mobility and safety in the beverage industry, generating a significant reduction in the emission of polluting gases with a staggered change of the fleet,” she said.

The executive explained that four of the new trucks will be assigned to routes in the Greater Metropolitan Area as they are ideal for quick deliveries and short and medium distance services, in addition to offering safety, technology and comfort to drivers.

The units are equipped with automated transmissions and departure assistance, thus reducing driving fatigue.

Another feature of the trucks is that they have a better turning radius, which allows the driver to have better visibility of the road and are equipped with cameras and reverse sensors, as an additional support for the crew when performing maneuvers, always in the company of the assistant.

“With the commitment of the Transportation team, four years ago Coca-Cola FEMSA‘s operation in Costa Rica incorporated electric vehicles in pre-sale routes, in addition to using state-of-the-art technology to optimize routes and distances traveled,” said Álvarez.
