The city of Barcelona, Spain, has implemented a series of initiatives to promote sustainable mobility. The city has 11,314,797 square meters (m2) for vehicle circulation and 9,850,081 m2 of pedestrian spaces.
Between 2012 and 2016 the capital of Catalonia increased by 42% the surface area of areas and streets with pedestrian priority for the benefit of people. Healthy coexistence spaces and for all stages of life.
With the latest Comprehensive Rehabilitation Plan, the city has added 7,450 m2 of green area, with 883 new trees in streets and squares; 212 new bicycle parking spaces have been installed and 65,513 m2 of single platform have been built.
In view of these efforts on the part of the authorities, the private sector is also making important investment alliances to promote electromobility. In this regard, Cooltra, a sustainable mobility company, signed an agreement with Wallbox, a provider of electric vehicle (EV) charging and energy management solutions.
The partnership promotes the development of Cooltra’s 360º sustainability plan, with which it also seeks to comply with the Climate Change Law.
Through the launch of the first corporate motosharing service for employees -Private Motosharing-, Cooltra implements a sustainable transport plan among the more than 1,000 Wallbox workers in Barcelona, thus promoting the transition to an electric, efficient, economical and safe work and personal mobility.
Wallbox workers can now travel with Cooltra electric scooters between the company’s headquarters in Barcelona and the factory located in Zona Franca. The fleet of motorcycles is managed through a company-specific adaptation of the mobile application.
Getting the Platform to Work
In order to make the transition to zero-emission mobility in a simple way, Cooltra created a geofence for Wallbox, a virtual perimeter through software, and its motorcycles act as a commuter or dynamic shuttle between its different plants.
In addition, workers have everything included, from the helmet, insurance, taxes, maintenance and electric charging of the vehicles. Cooltra has also made ebikes available to Wallbox, which the company can add to its existing fleet of electric bikes at any time.
