Copec has opened the Ruta del Norte, a 300-kilometer stretch connected through four fast-charging chargers for electric vehicles, which will allow a smooth journey from Antofagasta to San Pedro de Atacama.
Copec Voltex was in charge of the project, which managed to expand the availability of electric charging points in the northern part of the country, thanks to the incorporation of chargers in the towns of Sierra Gorda and Calama, complementing those already existing in Antofagasta and San Pedro de Atacama of 50kW.
According to a publication by Diario Sustentable, the chargers available in Sierra Gorda and Calama will offer charging capacities of 120 kW and 50 kW respectively.

Massifying Electromobility
Andrea Castro, Copec Voltex‘s General Manager, highlighted that the announcement represents a breakthrough, as it allows them to move forward in a concrete way in the company’s commitment to reach new corners of Chile with charging infrastructure.
“With these four chargers, users will be able to travel without any problem in electric vehicles throughout the Antofagasta region, in a strategic and key route for local development,” she said.
The project had the collaboration of Albemarle, one of the main lithium producers in the world, which, together with Copec, financed the chargers in San Pedro de Atacama and Calama as part of a plan to highlight the importance of lithium as a key element of electromobility.
The charging points are located at the Copec service stations at Av. Edmundo Perez Zujovic N° 10675, Antofagasta; Granaderos 3524, Calama; Ruta 5 Km 1392, Sierra Gorda; and Ruta 27, San Pedro de Atacama.
In this line, the company announced that from this month it will be possible to charge throughout the Copec Voltex network through the Copec App, inviting users to migrate from the Copec Voltex app, which will cease to be available at the end of March, to make way for a better charging experience and with access to all the benefits of Copec’s digital ecosystem.
