Daimler Truck Mexico Ready for a Major Electrification Project

During 2022, Daimler Truck Mexico, established an important roadmap to become the leader in the electric bus and cargo truck market in the country.

Marcela Barreiro, President and CEO of the company, pointed out that many companies are looking for electromobility solutions; for example, in the case of Freightliner, they already have electric units, but what they are looking for is to create a whole ecosystem that allows them to become a sustainable reality, benefiting the performance and efficiency of their customers.

Starting this year, the manufacturer reported that it has plans to begin the process of converting its internal combustion cargo transport units to electric.

Public Sector Support

Regarding Daimler‘s plan in Mexico, the Ministry of Economy revealed that in a meeting with company executives they announced their intentions to the head of the agency, Raquel Buenrostro, a message that was supported by the authorities.

“Buenrostro met with the company Daimler Truck Mexico, which expressed its commitment to start with the process of converting its internal combustion cargo transport units to electromobility,” says the message disseminated on the official Twitter of the agency.

The main goal of the firm, which brings together prestigious manufacturers of the automotive industry, is to conquer the electromobility market in Mexico, in order to meet the goal that by 2050 all cargo vehicles will be sustainable.

Macro Proposal

It is worth mentioning that Daimler Truck Mexico is building the “Electric Island Mexico“, a space where electric trucks and buses will be able to recharge their batteries.

The company is convinced that the electric future is already a reality, since the arrival of electrified vehicles represents the beginning of a new era, where technology alone is not enough.

According to company figures, the Freightliner brand has a 32.7% share of the freight transportation market in Mexico and is the number one brand in 17 states.
