E-Karts: SQM’s Strategy to Promote Electromobility in Children and Adolescents

Encouraging the energy transition and the adoption of electric vehicles does not only come from public policies, legislation or large investments. Entertainment strategies also make up another vision to achieve the objectives.

In this sense, SQM is organizing in Chile the E-Karts event for children and adolescents between 7 and 18 years old, to instill in the new generations the benefits of electric mobility.

The activity will be attended by renowned driver Eliseo Salazar, who will serve as a guide and mentor to the children who join the innovative event.

The free and environmentally friendly activity has already had its first date in Iquique, specifically in the parking lot of the Arturo Prat University (UNAP).

Subsequently, it visited Pozo Almonte, in front of the Sergio González High School, while the Antofagasta Region will receive the fleet of electric cars on Saturday, May 27 in Plaza Colón, in front of the Regional Governor’s Office.

SQM‘s Manager of Communities Nitrates Iodine and Public Affairs Northern Zone, Pablo Pisani, said that they are convinced that they are moving towards a more sustainable industry, hand in hand with the care of the environment and the reduction of polluting substances.

For his part, pilot Eliseo Salazar stated that “this initiative, which brings together future generations, seeks to disseminate the importance of electromobility, understanding that by 2035 no more combustion cars will be marketed; an international measure that seeks to curb climate change.”

“This area of our country enjoys a privileged climate, which allows us to carry out these activities throughout the year. On this occasion, together with SQM, we want to promote the importance of electromobility, introducing the subject in the best possible way, driving an electric vehicle and saving a unique experience in your memory,” added the broker.

Environmental contribution

SQM is one of the key players in the massification of sustainable mobility in Chile.

In 2022, the company joined the Public-Private Agreement for Electromobility led by the Ministry of Energy, which brings together 142 companies and is associated with various actions, objectives and concrete goals to advance in this area.

Through the agreement, SQM is committed to producing lithium with a low carbon footprint, becoming carbon neutral in the production of lithium by 2030, which will significantly support, from Chile, the mitigation of greenhouse gas generation in transportation.
