Partnerships between the public and private sectors continue to represent a crucial aspect in the promotion of electromobility and emissions reduction in Latin America.
In Chile, Enel X, together with the municipality of Colina, activated operations of the first electric garbage collector truck in the country, which will be at the service of the neighbors of the commune, becoming the first of its kind, and which will aim to incorporate sustainability in the waste collection segment.
The Hel PT1100 unit, made available by Enel X and operated by Starco, has an autonomy of 250 kilometers, and will collect household waste through a rear load that offers a compaction cycle of 15 seconds, generating a load between 600 and 700 kg/m3, equivalent to a compacted load of 10,000 kg.

According to a statement issued by Enel X, this project seeks to test the autonomy of electric trucks for garbage collection and their constructive capabilities to work based on the same performance of a conventional diesel truck of similar characteristics.
Additionally, the operation of the truck will be validated together with its high power charging infrastructure of 150 kW, provided by Enel X Way, located at the Peldehue terminal, which allows to supply energy in a flexible way, managing the power and its charging schedules.

Karla Zapata, General Manager of Enel X, emphasized that this is a pioneering project in the country that demonstrates the potential of electrification in all segments, replacing the use of fossil fuels with clean energy, in this case in garbage collection tasks, an activity that can also be developed with sustainable criteria, allowing to improve the quality of life of more than 180,000 neighbors.
“Once again, public-private collaboration inspires us to continue innovating and co-creating”, the executive emphasized.
For her part, Isabel Valenzuela, Mayor of the Municipality of Colina, said that the incorporation of these electric vehicles reaffirms the commitment they have with the environment, integrating the buses to the municipal fleet at the service of those who need it most.
“The electric garbage collection truck adds to a service that also has a home recycling program, putting us at the forefront in caring for the environment,” he explained.
In addition to the implementation of this electric garbage collection truck for RSD, the municipality of Colina will incorporate 3 electric buses to the existing public transportation fleet, which will be under the administration of the Municipal Corporation of Social Development, and which will reinforce the transportation of students to educational establishments.
