Significant investments by automotive manufacturers have combined with fiscal and tax incentives to have positive results in the increase of electric vehicles in the Argentine vehicle fleet.
While it is true that the country is still far from leading countries in the field such as Colombia and Chile, the increase has been significant this year, compared to the figures recorded in 2021.
In the first half of 2022, the sale of 100% electrified and hybrid cars had a growth of 28%, broken down into 82 pure electric and 3,371 hybrids.
According to figures published by Yahoo Finance, the number represents 274 units more than the record for the same period last year, an encouraging figure considering that the technology is not yet standardized in the country and that car sales are also not at their best due to the current economic recession.
Leading Manufacturers
In addition to the significant increase of new energy cars in the Argentine market, seven brands patented new models during the first 6 months of 2022.
By firms, sales in the first half of the year continue to be led by Toyota, with just over 84% share. The two Corolla models (sedan and SUV with its Cross version) are the best sellers, and the SUV had an outstanding 39% growth compared to the second quarter of 2021.
The list of best-selling brands in the hybrid and electric segment continues with Ford, through the Kuga model and the incursion of the new F-150.
The other manufacturers that make up the offer in Argentina stand at less than 100 units per semester. DS with its DS 7 Crossback and the novelty of the semester which is the national CORADIR, with the first patents of its model Tito.
It should be noted that the five best-selling models in the first half of 2022 represent 90% of total registrations. The leader is Toyota Corolla Cross (55% of the total), followed by Toyota Corolla (22%) and Toyota Rav4 (6%). Only in fourth place appears a vehicle of another brand, the Ford Kuga (5%) and the new F-150 hybrid appears in fifth place.
Regarding their location, of the 247 electric vehicles in Argentina, the Federal Capital and the Metropolitan area concentrate almost half of the fleet (46%) while in the cities of Mendoza and San Juan 5% circulate in each one (13 and 12 units respectively), while in 9 localities of Santa Fe there are several units available.
