General Motors to Change Part of Business Line in Colombia and Ecuador

Weeks ago, General Motors announced significant modifications to its activities in Colombia and Ecuador, with the goal of ensuring the company is better prepared to provide its vehicles and technologies.

In this way, operations in Colombia and Ecuador will be transformed into a model of national marketing companies to support the launch of next-generation vehicles.

In this regard, manufacturing activities at the Colmotores plant in Colombia will be halted, while manufacturing at the OBB plant in Ecuador will cease at the end of August 2024.

The conversion of operations into national vehicle marketing and after-sales service companies aims to address the challenges arising from the increasing fragmentation of markets and the underutilization of the Colmotores and GM OBB plants.

As a result, General Motors will maintain its historical presence in Colombia and Ecuador through its Chevrolet brand and its network of companies and businesses (GMICA-Isuzu, GM Financial, and Chevyplan).

Additionally, it will continue collaborating with its business partners, and its dealership network, and offering OnStar connectivity services.

“The actions we are announcing today are essential to ensuring that we are better positioned to offer our customers the most advanced vehicles and technologies, and to drive the transformation of the industry in Colombia and Ecuador towards a zero-emissions future,” said Shilpan Amin, president of GM International.
