Geotab, a global leader on telematics offering hardware and connectivity solutions for fleets and other next-generation vehicles, strengthened its commitment to environmental protection and climate change mitigation with the presentation of their first sustainability report.
Among the highlights of the publication are the strategies and long-term goals on which the company will focus to reduce emissions throughout all its operations and adhere to the Sustainable Development Goals.
Geotab has set 2040 as its target date for achieving net zero emissions, 10 years short of the Paris Agreement’s deadline for mitigating global warming to below two degrees Celsius.
Key Focuses
Safeguarding the environment, sourcing responsibly, delivering breakthroughs to help organizations do things better and creating a positive impact on society are the pillars underpinning Geotab’s sustainable strategy.
During 2020, the company focused on developing and innovating products capable of driving more sustainable and safer transportation operations for customers.
They also established alliances with strategic partners, such as vehicle manufacturers, charging infrastructure providers, governments, administrations and other key catalysts within the transportation ecosystem.
In addition, Geotab has set a near-term Scope 1 and 2 target to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 50% by 2030, thereby committing to achieving zero emissions by 2040.
Among the achievements detailed by the organization are a 19% decrease for Scope 1 emissions, a 16% decrease for Scope 2 emissions, and a 32% decrease for Scope 3 emissions.
They also minimized 54.6% of waste ending up in landfills by adopting a company-wide sustainable approach to recycling based on culture, communication and collection.
Similarly, a corporate social responsibility (CSR) working group was established within Geotab to encourage the development of definitive action plans to further environmental, social and governance (ESG) efforts across global operations.
Innovation to Preserve the Environment
Neil Cawse, CEO of Geotab stressed that as a leading technology company they are in a unique and privileged position to fight climate change by leading other companies’ low-carbon transportation initiatives with their own products and services.
He assured that with the support of their allies, they can make a big difference, as the data-driven insights available to them enable fleets to understand, act and scale their efforts to reduce their emissions. “We can be the catalyst to help our customers, partners and suppliers improve their energy efficiency, conserve resources and meet their own climate change goals,” Cawse stressed.
“Our commitment to achieving zero net greenhouse gas emissions by 2040 is not just for our own sake, but we are doing it with the goal of creating a better world for generations to come,” the executive added.
Among the extensive efforts for sustainability and ethics on operations, Geotab has been honored with several awards such as Great Place to Work, as well as Inclusion, Women, Mental Wellness, and Today’s Youth.
By implementing cleaner energy sources for its buildings, reducing material usage and other carbon elimination strategies, Geotab aims to further reduce its footprint through measurement and management.
