Mexico: Key Players Work on Incentives for Electromobility

Authorities and representatives of Mexico’s automotive industry pointed out that it is of vital importance to promote incentives to boost electromobility, and highlighted the great progress made in the country.

In this sense, Tere Jiménez, Governor of Aguascalientes, assured that the state is poised to lead the electric car industry, for which reforms and fiscal support are required.

“There is already the creation of these reforms, for Aguascalientes to be a pilot and be that state where industries want to invest, especially we have important incentives in payroll tax for two years,” she said.

Jimenez commented that governments must move forward with important reforms to encourage the electric car market and provide legal certainty in new investments coming to the country, related to electromobility, to create more charging infrastructure and new brand offerings.

“We are making these changes and these modifications, where we have to go adapting with the homes that already have to have chargers, in shopping centers, in universities, to be able to help these electric cars to be in the market, as it is in Aguascalientes,” she added.

For his part, Francisco González, President of the National Auto Parts Industry (INA) pointed out that the biggest challenge in manufacturing will be to produce electric vehicles and auto parts with clean energies in order to achieve a clean transition in the industry.

Along the same lines, Prasad Shinde, Second Secretary and Economic and Commercial Officer of the Embassy of India, pointed out that both Mexico and India are in transition towards the electrification of the automotive industry, which must be feasible and sustainable in order to be successful.

“India has sought to achieve this transition to electromobility. One of the points is to give incentives such as tax exemption for electric vehicles and incentives for manufacturing,” he said.
