Mexico: Mobility Law Passed in Campeche

Outside the big cities, important initiatives are also emerging to promote the decarbonization of the vehicle fleet.

Although it is true that they do not have the same level of population, the regions suffer equally from the effects of pollution from the transportation sector.

Against this backdrop, the Congress of Campeche, Mexico, unanimously approved the Mobility Law.

The law seeks to improve the quality of life of Campeche’s citizens by promoting an efficient, safe and sustainable public transportation service.

Among the main provisions of the legislation, the regulation of platforms such as Uber and Didi, among others, stand out.

Key Step

The law represents a milestone in the history of Campeche, as it is the first time that specific regulations are established to regulate these new forms of mobility.

In addition, it reflects the commitment of the main actors for the modernization and improvement of infrastructure.

The process of approval of the law was the result of a joint work between the different political forces of the Congress, highlighting the support of the deputies, who recognized the importance of having a modern regulation, according to the needs of the population and technological advances.

With the approval of the text, Campeche is at the forefront of Mexican entities in terms of mobility, providing a solid legal framework that will facilitate the implementation of effective measures to improve the public transportation system, which has long been requested by the population.

It is worth noting that Mexico is among the top 10 in the world in terms of GHG emissions in the transportation sector.

In the country, transportation is responsible for the emission of 148 million tons of CO2 and represents the second source of GHG emissions after electricity generation.
