Mexico on the Radar of Multinational Companies Looking to Invest in Electromobility

Asia’s impact and leadership in electromobility is being felt in Latin America. In Paraguay, for example, cooperation agreements have been in place for several years with South Korea, a country that has served as a guide to promote projects.

The Korean influence extends to other countries such as Mexico, with the installation of companies interested in developing their operations in North America.

According to a report by Forbes magazine, a group of 80 South Korean electromobility companies, electric vehicle manufacturers and semiconductor producers are interested in investing and turning Mexico into their manufacturing center.

This was reported in a conversation with Humberto Esqueda Ramos, President of the Mexico-South Korea Bilateral Committee of the Mexican Business Council for Foreign Trade, Investment and Technology (Comce).

“In any seminar that is organized now in Seoul there are always 80 or more companies that are analyzing the possibility of investing and want to come here (Mexico),” he said.

Companies on the Radar

Korean companies such as Posco, Kia, Inzi, Samsung, LG, Speco, Pantech, Nieco, Hyundai, Dyos, Kepco, among others, have invested more than 8 billion dollars in the construction of plants and factories in Mexico, generating more than 150,000 jobs.

According to figures from the Ministry of Economy, there are more than 430 Korean companies in Mexico and more than 2,000 registered Korean businesses, including micro, small and medium-sized organizations.

“I believe that everything that has to do with electric vehicles and electric vehicle supply will find Mexico a very competitive place to produce and manufacture,” said Esqueda.
