Moovit: 64% of Bogotans will continue to use public transport despite the pandemic

After the confinement established in Bogotá in March 2020, the use of public transport in the Colombian capital decreased by approximately 23%, a figure that could take a positive turn if the frequency of vehicles increase (which would translate into the implementation of social distancing) according to the report made by the software company, Moovit.

At least 63% of those surveyed suggested that the influx of passengers could increase if the concentration of users in the units is reduced, a measure that could be fruitful if they obtain the arrival times of the vehicles in real time.

Another of the practices that would encourage Bogotanos to use public transport more frequently would be to have more flexible hours in order to eliminate peak hours caused by traditional work hours, at least 46% of those consulted think so.

Likewise, 24% would like to receive notifications about vehicles that have been recently disinfected, at the same time that they would like to have payment systems that do not involve contact with other people and, on the contrary, purchase their tickets through their smartphones.

Will Bogotanos continue to use public transportation?

Either because they have no other option to move around or simply because it is their preference, it is a fact that the population of Bogotá will continue to use public transport even after confinement. This was stated by 68% of the people who gave their opinion in the survey, a quite high percentage considering that to date 692 thousand cases of COVID-19 have been registered in the town, according to official data.

Little trust

The lowest figure in the Moovit report points to the lack of confidence that users feel when using public transport in its different means, and only 2% said they felt safe when moving due to the pandemic.

On the other hand, 7% of Bogota citizens expressed feeling confident when using public transport in the midst of the pandemic.
