Promigas: “We’ll maintain the development of incentives that allow a greater massification of Natural Gas Vehicles”

As sustainable mobility expands from the world’s great capitals, low-emission alternatives to power vehicles have gained relevance, with natural gas being one of the main bases that sustains the transition to a greener planet.

Promigas, a company from Colombia with almost half a century of experience in the natural gas sector, has been a key player in the distribution of NGV (Natural Gas Vehicle), and for 24 years it has faced this market that currently has taken vital importance taking into account the decarbonization plans in which the governments of Latin America and the Caribbean are working.

According to the Colombian Natural Gas Association, in the world there are more than 33 million vehicles that run on the fuel, of which 2,000 (bus-type) are part of the public transport of large Colombian cities such as Bogotá, Barranquilla, Cartagena and Medellín. This fact has represented a growth opportunity for Promigas, which in 2020 maintained its operational continuity to a 99.8%.

Despite the global pandemic due to COVID-19, Promigas continued its sustainability plans, providing NGV to a large part of the 2,000 buses and 400 heavy transport vehicles that use compressed gas as fuel.

“We continue to support the use of fuels with low environmental impact. We celebrate the start of operations of 40 garbage compactors and 120 tractors in areas of influence of our company,” declared the president of Promigas, Eric Flesch, in the 2020 Management Report.

Through the report, Flesh showed great interest in the early reactivation of the transport service for 2021, especially the one powered by GNV. “We will maintain the development of incentives that allow a greater massification of Natural Gas Vehicles in the cargo transport sector and in mass transport systems. In this way, we will continue to support sustainable mobility in natural gas transportation.”

Thus, the company has taken for granted that, despite the global crisis, it will continue to support green measures and will work to increase its NGV supply chain, representing a firm foundation in the midst of the transition towards more sustainable mobility.
