As part of its sustainability strategy that seeks carbon neutrality in its operations, Grupo Bimbo acquired an important fleet of electric trucks from Scania.
Bimbo reported that in 2020, managed to reduce its carbon dioxide emissions by 9% compared to the previous year, and that 80% of the electric energy they use comes from renewable sources.
These are the first units of the renowned brand of electrified heavy vehicles in Latin America, specifically in Mexico, where the company is beginning to make a strong presence with its technological and ecological offer.
Bimbo purchased seven Scania Mexico model 2024 25P B4x2 rigid electric trucks. The 100% electric vehicles, which will travel on urban routes, have a load capacity of 11.5 tons and will be equipped with the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) 2.0.
Each vehicle will also be covered by Scania’s maintenance contracts to ensure maximum availability and efficiency of the units to be operated.

Thorough Testing
Grupo Bimbo‘s order follows the completion of a successful trial period of a 25P B4x2 electric truck, as part of the company’s shared intention with Scania to move towards sustainable transport. The test, which began in 2022, yielded positive results in terms of range and performance.
Alejandro Mondragón, CEO of Scania Mexico, highlighted that both companies are gradually approaching the common goal of reducing polluting emissions from vehicles to 20% of their 2015 level by 2025, and continuing to move towards zero carbon emissions, in line with the commitment of the Science-Based Targets initiative.
He explained that these are buses for the distribution of goods in Mexico City, which already have very specific routes, in a Bimbo distribution base where they ensured that all the energies that supply the trucks are renewable.
“It is an important investment that Bimbo is making because it is not only the trucks, it is the bodywork, the platform and all of this as part of its commitment and Scania Mexico’s commitment to renewable energies,” Mondragón concluded.
