“Sustainable Mobility Master Plan” for Bogota is Unveiled

Shortly before the end of her term of office, the Mayor of Bogota, Claudia Lopez presented the “Sustainable Mobility Master Plan” that she will leave projected until 2035.

The initiative is one of the three plans regulated by her administration in the Land Use Plan, “Bogota Reverdece”.

Lopez said that the mayor’s office fulfilled a pending debt with the people of Bogota, in order to have mobility, care, social services, housing and long-term habitat for us and our families.

He specified that with the master plan the capital of Colombia will have a multimodal mobility strategy until 2035, which will allow consolidating actions immersed in decarbonization.

It will also position the metropolis as a caring, fair, close, equitable, inclusive, gender-focused and environmentally friendly city.

A Legacy

The mayor added that the mobility plan defines and implements a policy based on respect for the environment, the reduction of territorial, social and gender inequalities, the prioritization of vulnerable populations and access to a city fit for all.

“This mayor’s office not only leaves the Master Plan, but it has already started with the part that corresponded to it. That is why we leave two subway lines, of the five proposed in the plan, one in execution and the other in bidding”.

He also pointed out that of the two Regiotram lines, one is under construction and the other is completely structured. In addition, of the seven new aerial cables, the one in San Cristóbal is under construction and the one in Potosí is under bidding.

The mobility plan, which will pass into the hands of Carlos Fernando Galán and his Secretary of Mobility on January 1, 2024, aims that by 2035, 77% of trips in the city will be made by sustainable modes, in which public transportation (TransMilenio – Sitp – Metro), bicycles and walking stand out.

To this end, it was projected that Bogota will have six Modal Integration Complexes at the ends of the capital, where it will articulate with public transport systems in the region.

Based on this, the plan will have a rail network of 107.41 km and 162.31 km at regional level, supported and integrated with more green corridors and aerial cables; 500 km of new bicycle infrastructures, which will allow more cyclists to join the use of this sustainable means of transportation.

The Mobility Secretariat added that, with the consolidation of a network of bicycle infrastructure and the Bicycle Sharing System, the service will be expanded to other areas of the capital to improve the offer.
