Tesla has installed eight charging stations in Chile, inaugurating the first Supercharger network in South America.
According to a publication in the U.S. magazine “Wired”, the action marks an outstanding advance in terms of the infrastructure needed to accelerate the adoption of new mobility technologies in the region.
The points have been set up in strategic locations. Four of them have been established in the Arauco Premium Outlet Buenaventura shopping plaza, located in the community of Quilicurae. The rest are located in the Arauco Premium Outlet Curauma complex in Valparaíso.
Tesla assures that these energy supply centers will serve some of the busiest routes in Chilean territory.

Operation
The electric stations will operate 24 hours a day and promise to charge up to 80% of the battery of an electric vehicle in 20 minutes. They will have an availability rate of over 99%.
In the first stage, their use will be free of charge and will be restricted to cars manufactured by Tesla. The company anticipates that, in the coming months, the network will be enabled to charge units of other brands (compatible with the North American Charging Standard or NACS) and a fee will be applied that can be consulted through its mobile application.
The platform will also allow drivers to manage their cars’ energy consumption and make payments for service.
The automaker plans to expand its network in Chile. Over the next two years, it intends to locate stations every 150 to 200 kilometers.
This will enable drivers to make long-distance trips. It will also contribute to solving one of the shortcomings that are holding back the mass abandonment of combustion means of transport.
