Toyota and Lexus Partner with WattTime to Offer Environmentally Friendly Charging Infrastructure

In addition to a robust charging infrastructure for electric vehicles, automotive manufacturers are perfecting their technologies for optimal energy efficiency.

In this regard, Toyota signed an agreement with WattTime, an environmental technology organization that helps people, companies, legislators and countries to reduce emissions and choose cleaner energy.

One of the goals of the alliance is to provide certain environmental and health impact data to Toyota and Lexus customers with eligible vehicles to enable them to find ideal charging times to reduce emissions when charging at home.

By using the information to make more informed decisions about supply times, users can help lessen the impact of power plants affecting human health and climate change.

Sophisticated Platforms

Through the Remote Connect feature within the Toyota and Lexus apps, BEV and PHEV customers will be able to manage their home charging experience through the ECO charging tool to select the most efficient times to charge their vehicles.

Steve Basra, Toyota Connected Technologies Group VP, noted that with the integration of WattTime data they provide customers with an easy and accessible way to identify times when they can charge their vehicle to help reduce their environmental impact.

“The Toyota and Lexus apps offer a seamless and simple solution for our customers, and we are confident that this will enhance their electrified vehicle ownership experience.”

As part of this agreement, Toyota will be the exclusive automotive manufacturer that will also provide WattTime data related to people’s health to customers.

“Our electrified vehicle customers select vehicles not only to enjoy the best customer experience, but also to have a positive impact on the environment and society,” said James George, Toyota EV Charging Solutions General Manager.

He assured that they will continue to provide solutions to support Toyota’s goal of creating a carbon neutral society.
