Vitesco Technologies Revolutionizes Electromobility Market with Battery Management System

The construction of batteries and their wide technological capacity is a fundamental aspect in the manufacture of electric vehicles. Through the attributes of this material, cars will be able to have greater performance and autonomy.

One of the companies that specializes in the development and commercialization of batteries is Vitesco Technologies, which through its sophisticated platform was able to win orders for more than 2 billion euros for its management systems.

As part of these recent procurements, the company will deliver a wireless communication version of the battery control units for the 400V and 800V BEV architecture.

This particular innovative solution reduces the amount of wiring inside the battery, saving space and improving autonomy by using a larger battery or reducing size and weight.

The Technology

The battery management system is a key function of the electric drive: Intelligent Battery Management System (BMS) solutions, consisting of control units, sensors and application software, protect the battery against overheating and ensure a balanced state of charge of all cells.

The main functions of the Vitesco Technologies Battery Management System allow the battery management controller to continuously monitor the status of the cells and modules.

This process can trigger corrective action within the battery when an undesirable operating condition is detected in order to provide maximum autonomy and achieve maximum battery life.

Personalized Service

On the battery management system, Thomas Stierle, member of the Board of Directors and Head of the Electrification Technology and Electronic Controls business units at Vitesco Technologies, explained that with modular software and hardware they can offer their customers tailor-made solutions.

In addition, he noted that innovations such as wireless communication with the battery modules allow for advanced design, leading to reduced system costs.

“The number of BMS orders we have received in recent weeks and months reflects the relevance of our solutions. We have signed contracts with global high-volume manufacturers, high-end automotive manufacturers and start-ups, in all relevant markets,” he added.
