Chile continues on a positive path towards the transition to electric mobility needed by the country and the region. Only in 2021, 556 electric vehicles were marketed, which set a sales record, according to figures from the Transurban Foundation.
Since 2016, the country set out a national electromobility policy that seeks to electrify 40% of the private car fleet by 2050, and become one of the leaders in the region on implementing clean technologies into the transportation sector.
In addition, 53 companies and organizations signed the third version of the public-private agreement for electromobility in Chile by early 2020. The initiative, which includes the Ministries of Energy, Transport and Corfo, was joined by Volvo, which committed to generate an instance for the development of knowledge for electric mobility.
To consolidate these strategies and support the work being done by the public sector, private companies are also developing electrification technologies. One such case is the alliance announced a few months ago by Volvo Cars Chile and Enel X to install 100 recharging points, the first of which has already been inaugurated.
Both organizations introduced their initial commitment at the NH Collection Plaza Santiago Hotel, a company that joins this important initiative for sustainable mobility.
At the time of announcing the partnership, Volvo and Enel X detailed that the chargers that will be installed have the JuiceBox technology, which allows monitoring the charge directly or through the EV JuiceNet App available for Android and iPhone.
Each charging point has two output cables. The first one will be the so-called Type 1, single-phase, capable of delivering a charging power of 7.4 kW. The second, called Type 2, is three-phase and delivers an output power of up to 22 kW.
Medium-term Vision
Andrés Román, Commercial Manager of Volvo Cars in Chile, pointed out that these types of proposals are part of the process begun with the goal of being 100% electric by the year 2030.
“An important part of promoting electromobility in Chile is to be able to contribute to the development of a network of charging stations throughout the country. Today we are proud to inaugurate our first double station together with Hotel NH and Enel X,” he said.
For her part, Carla Amado, Director of NH Collection Plaza Santiago, stated that for the company, sustainability is a strategic value, which is why the new installation demonstrates that they are still committed to innovation in order to develop eco-efficient solutions.
The presentation of this recharging point is part of the so-called electroroute of Enel X, where the company plans to cover with chargers from the area of Arica to Punta Arenas, aiming to install an energy supply center every 75 kilometers.
