In 2022, important electromobility projects have been launched in Chile. While it is true that the South American country is one of the pioneers in sustainable mobility, public-private partnerships continue to strengthen its commitment to energy transition and decarbonization.
In this regard, the National Sustainable Mobility Strategy (ENMS) was relaunched, a guiding document with which Chile seeks to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and contribute to the goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
It should be noted that urban mobility is one of the main contributors to the country’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. According to international agreements, the nation committed to reach its maximum annual emissions by 2025.
The activity was supported by the Secretariat of Transportation Planning (Sectra), in which also participated the ministries of Environment, Energy, Housing and Urbanism, Public Works, Social Development and Family, and the Euroclima+ program of the European Union (EU).

To promote the National Strategy for Sustainable Mobility -which will now be available to everyone through a QR code-, the Family Bike Ride “Pedal for the Future” was held, with the participation of authorities and various organizations.
At the meeting, the Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, Juan Carlos Muñoz, pointed out that moving towards more sustainable cities is fundamental, a task that must be carried out in a joint effort.
“The National Strategy for Sustainable Mobility (ENMS) has inter-ministerial support and our objective is that it be used – both internally and externally – as an instrument for permanent consultation,” he added.
He underscored the support of the European Union to implement the program through a study that is being developed and that seeks to design lines of financing for projects to redistribute space and discourage the use of automobiles”.
For his part, the Ambassador of the European Union, León de la Torre pointed out that sustainable and low-emission mobility is one of the most important measures that can be promoted to meet the GHG emission reduction targets to which all countries have committed under the Paris Agreement.
The Strategy is composed of seven objectives and 30 short, medium and long term measures to mitigate the negative effects of transportation on the environment, and is a tool that resulted from an intersectoral work led by the Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications (MTT).
