The increase in the sale of electric vehicles continues to be significant in Brazil, a country that has combined investments from private companies with important incentives from the public sector, with the aim of promoting the energy transition in the vehicle fleet.
In this context, the Brazilian Association of Electric Vehicles (ABVE) published the balance of electrified cars registered during February 2023. Compared to the same period of 2022, there is an increase of 25.01% in the total number of units.
In February 2023, 4,294 low-emission cars were registered, compared to 3,435 in the previous year.

Bimonthly Balance
With respect to the first months of the year, in 2023, the total number of electrified vehicles registered was 8,797 units, representing an increase of 46.78% compared to the previous year.
Among the lines, BEVs (100% Battery Electric Vehicles) and PHEVs (Pug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles), which experienced a great evolution in the market, stand out.
Last year, 402 units of BEVs were licensed in February. In 2023, in the second month of the year alone, there were 638, an increase of 58.71%.
PHEVs increased even more with 134.80% in registrations. In February of this year alone, 1,383 units were registered, compared to 589 in 2022.
HEV Figures
There is also an increase in the registration of hybrid vehicles, the HEVs. Considering the month of February, 540 vehicles were registered in 2023, compared to 387 in the same period last year.
The HEVflex, on the other hand, had a drop in the comparison between February 2022 and this year. The retraction was 15.75%, from 2,057 units in 2022 to 1,733 in 2023.
According to the ranking released by ABVE, Toyota led electric car sales with 1,577 units of the Corolla Cruz, 1,073 of the Corolla Altis, while Volvo closes the podium with 775.
