Puebla to Expand Electric Vehicle Charging Network

The Economy Secretary of Puebla, Ermilo Barrera Novelo, informed that the region will have 50 electric chargers in total by the end of this year, with the installation of 30 new chargers in addition to the 20 that already existed in the state.

The Head of the Secretariat of Economy also announced that the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE) will implement new regulations for electromobility in Mexico.

It is worth mentioning that Puebla already has the infrastructure of two electric routes in seven municipalities and the goal is to implement four more that include the municipalities of Atlixco, San José Chiapa, Tepeaca, Puebla capital, the Cholulas and the Mixteca area.

Novelo explained that six routes were designed that are going to have chargers for electric vehicles, of which two are already electrified. “We have the largest public policy in all of Mexico for energy investment,” he said.

During the Regional Forum on “Standardization and Regulation” held between the Energy Regulatory Commission and different entities, it was also made known that there will be a regulatory framework for electromobility in the country, so that this can be put into practice under the legal framework.

“A new regulation on electromobility for electric car chargers is being reformed and created, and the most avant-garde state and promoter of this issue is the state of Puebla,” he stressed.

Mexico’s National Regulatory Improvement Commission (Conamer) indicated that the agreement by which the CRE issues the general administrative provisions on electromobility, to integrate the charging infrastructure for electric and hybrid vehicles to the National Electric System (SEN), is now available for consultation.

According to the document published in the Conamer, the provisions have the general objective of regulating the orderly connection of charging infrastructure for electric and hybrid vehicles, in a safe way to the SEN, as well as the development of a digital platform that allows to know the evolution of the charging infrastructure in Mexico.
