Climate Commitment of Enel Highlights at the UN General Assembly and Sustainability Week

As part of its mission to become one of the key players in the global energy transition, the Enel Group joined the 77th United Nations (UN) General Assembly and Sustainability Week.

At the meeting, the company shared its views and perceptions on the main topics on the event’s agenda, such as the global food crisis, energy and finance, the promotion of sustained economic growth and sustainable development, the promotion of justice and a new corporate approach to governance.

On September 19, Enel CEO and Managing Director, Francesco Starace, met with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, along with other CEOs of the UN Global Compact (UNGC).

During the day, the Enel representative joined the Global Compact’s Global Africa Business Initiative event, participating in a panel discussion on just energy transition for the continent.

In a press release, the Italian group detailed that Starace was also part of the Private Sector Forum (PSF), which convenes the most committed managers of UNGC companies and representatives of governments and UN agencies, through a panel on the financing and investments needed to promote renewable energies and sustainable development.

The Enel Group was also represented by CFO, Alberto De Paoli, who attended the UN Global Compact’s SDG Investment Forum, a meeting that brings together CFOs, sustainability experts and investors to exchange views on how investments and corporate finance can contribute to the SDGs.

This year’s event was also attended by Enel’s General Counsel, Giulio Fazio, who on September 19 opened the “Legal Hour” at the PSF dedicated to the Global Compact’s new initiative on Transformational Governance, which aims to expand the role of legal professionals in sustainability, driving business decisions, which Enel will lead as a Patron.
