Enel X Way Installs First Chargers for Financial Sector at BBVA Peru

For some years now, important advances in electromobility have been evident in Peru, although it is still far from giants in the region such as Colombia, Chile and Mexico.

According to the Peruvian Automotive Association, 168 units of electric and hybrid vehicles were sold in 2018. Between January and August 2022 alone, nearly 1,640 units were marketed.

There are currently around 3,000 electrified vehicles circulating in the country and there are close to 100 recharging points, in addition to multiple public and residential commercial projects.

As part of its leadership in Latin America in supply infrastructure, Enel X Way continues to take key steps. The company installed two new electric vehicle chargers, this time at BBVA’s headquarters located in San Isidro.

This is a milestone for the banking sector, as it is the first financial institution in Peru to have this technology in its facilities.

The installed infrastructure consists of two 7.4 kilowatt (KW) WayBox chargers, which have a type 2 input cable included. This allows to obtain a 50% recharge in at least 2.5 hours, and less than an hour for a plug-in hybrid.

These charging stations are ready to be used by bank employees with electric cars.

Alex Ascón, Enel X Way General Manager, explained that with this BBVA initiative, the banking sector joins the actors committed to sustainability and the transformation of transportation in our cities.

“The bank, by installing these electric chargers, not only contributes to the reduction of polluting emissions, but also improves the experience of its customers and employees,” he stressed.

It is very likely that BBVA’s route will continue to install more of these electric chargers in its branches nationwide.

In addition, it plans to migrate part of its management fleet to plug-in hybrid and 100% electric vehicles in the coming years in line with its commitment to reduce its carbon footprint.

With this measure, the bank demonstrates its commitment to sustainability and its leadership in the transition to a green economy.

“As BBVA we continue to make progress in adopting energy efficiency measures that are aligned with our sustainability strategy. This action also makes it easier for our employees to load their vehicles at the office, helping them to travel with zero emissions in their daily lives,” said Fernando Eguiluz, CEO of BBVA Peru.
