Geotab: First Company to Receive an Executive Order to Comply with California’s Climate Regulations

Geotab announced that it has received an industry-first executive order from the California Air Resources Board (CARB) that officially exempts Geotab’s aftermarket solutions from anti-emission manipulation regulations in the California market.

The decree makes Geotab the only continuously connected, CARB-compliant fleet management solution available at this time.

The State of California has set the standard for effective air and climate programs for the United States, developing programs and actions to combat climate change, including clean vehicles and fuels to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Regulations

As part of its regulations, CARB prohibits the marketing, installation or sale of any part that makes changes to the original design or performance of the emission control system.

This includes the on-board diagnostic (OBD) system that Geotab’s GO device and many other devices used by telematics companies to collect data from vehicles. Failure to comply with the regulations can result in potential fines of up to $42,000 per vehicle.
