Geotab will Provide Sophisticated Technology to the United States Air Force

Telematics, a telecommunications service enabling data transmission through interconnected systems, and which embraces computing and communication technology knowledge for design, process and technical development of services or applications, is becoming increasingly important for the transportation sector.

Geotab, a world leader in this field, won an important contract with the United States Air Force to implement innovation throughout the U.S. government’s fleet of vehicles.

Using a sophisticated platform, Geotab promotes safety by connecting vehicles to the Internet and provides customized reports to help users better manage their fleets. The company’s advanced structure enable large and small businesses to automate and digitize their processes by integrating data from their cars.

With the agreement, more than 21,000 U.S. law enforcement general-purpose vehicles will be equipped with Geotab’s highly reliable fleet management technology.

The telematics leader will focus on prioritizing the safeguarding at the forefront of its solutions by ensuring rigorous measures that meet and exceed industry cybersecurity best practices.

During 2019, Geotab received FIPS 140-2 validation for its cryptographic library and, more recently, FedRAMP authorization and ISO 27001 certification for their telematics platform. These compliance clearances validate the system and organizational processes, enabling the company to offer transportation management services to all levels of federal, state and local government agencies.

Aspects to be Covered by Geotab

The work to be performed by the company on U.S. government vehicles consists of automatic odometer capture, a measuring instrument that calculates total or partial distance traveled; engine diagnostics, predictive analytics, fuel data, customized reports, Greenhouse Gas reduction dashboards, and fleet right-sizing reports.

Among specific actions, Geotab will be responsible for functions such as placing cameras on-board vehicles, real-time temperature tracking and tire pressure monitoring. In addition, the company will implement innovative mobile applications, third-party integrations, among others.

With billions of data points processed daily, telematics specialists will deliver critical business intelligence to help increase productivity and efficiency, strengthen compliance and improve driver safety.

Selected for their integration capabilities and proven commitment to information security, Geotab received permission from the Air Force Department to operate within the Department of Defense, a division of the executive branch of the U.S. Federal Government. This authorization will allow other agencies attached to security to take advantage of the company’s services.

Dan Zdarko, Federal Government Business Development Manager for Geotab, explained that administrations around the world are turning to telematics to improve fleet management. He noted that with commitment to information security, more than 2,000 government agencies and departments at all levels rely on Geotab to capture, measure and analyze crucial transportation data.

“Winning this sole source contract from the Department of the Air Force further solidifies Geotab’s ability to collaborate with agencies operating at the highest levels of national data security and to provide a customized, highly secure telematics solution,” Zdarko noted.
