NIO and BYD Increase Electric Vehicle Sales in Last Quarter

As 2023 comes to a close, global electric vehicle sales balances begin, with brands such as NIO and BYD posting strong results.

Nio achieved its best third quarter ever, while BYD continues its dominant streak with record EV sales in September.

According to a report from Electrek, in the first seven months of the year, electric vehicle sales exceeded 3.06 million, up 28.7% from 2022.

BYD Data

BYD, which already managed to overtake Volkswagen as the brand that sells the most cars in China, registered 151,193 all-electric vehicles in September alone. For its part, it sold 431,603 units in the third quarter.

BYD‘s sales are very similar to those harvested by Tesla. According to the company chaired by Elon Musk, it has delivered 435,059 electric models, below estimates of between 440,000 and 490,000 units.

The fourth quarter projects even more optimistic data, as BYD will try to keep the momentum going with the launch of new models in Japan, Mexico, Australia, India and Hungary, among other countries.

NIO Data

NIO delivered 15,641 units in September, bringing the third quarter to a record 55,432 units.
Year-to-date, the Asian manufacturer registered 109,993 all-electric models. Deliveries increased in recent months, with the arrival on the market of several new models.

NIO launched what many call its most important model to date, the new ES6, which broke the monthly sales record for a single model in July. The company also launched its first electric station wagon, the ET5 Touring, intended for Europe, in June. The latest to hit the market was the revamped EC6.

Looking at these figures, it seems that NIO is following BYD’s strategy, with affordable models.
