Shell Opens Recharging Center in Argentina with Technological Support from Siemens

At the beginning of 2022, the Shell oil company set itself the goal of converting its service stations into electric charging stations, with the aim of joining the energy change required by the planet to reduce carbon emissions and promote the massification of sustainable mobility.

Although it is true that the company started this project in London, Latin America has not been left aside in the framework of its sustainable strategy by recently announcing the inauguration of a charging center for electric cars in Argentina.

It is located in Servicentro Remeros, a service station of the brand located in Nordelta, province of Buenos Aires. It consists of a charger with a power of 50 kW, is supported by impressive Siemens technology and has the capacity to charge two vehicles at the same time.

The project became a reality through a partnership with Raízen Argentina, Shell’s licensee in the South American country.

Part of an Overall Strategy

The inauguration of the supply point took place during the presentation of Shell Recharge, the division of the oil company specialized in electric mobility, which lands in Argentina and joins 29 other countries in the world where it currently operates.

In the middle of the event, a VW ID.3 and an Audi e-Tron were exhibited. It should be recalled that the Volkswagen Group has a strategic alliance with Shell and also with Siemens, for which another fast charger will soon be installed in the Audi Lounge.

The installation is a big step towards electromobility in Argentina, taking into account that there are currently around 250 100% electric cars in the country and approximately 150 chargers, according to figures from the specialized portal Inside Evs. In addition, the government has just announced a program to commercialize 50% of EV cars by 2030 and presented the National Sustainable Mobility Plan.

A Period of Change

In the midst of the center’s inauguration, Raízen Argentina’s CEO, Teófilo Lacroze pointed out that the energy and mobility industry is in a moment of profound transformation worldwide, which is why the company wants to be a protagonist of the energy transition, working every day for a cleaner and more sustainable matrix.

“With the installation of this first Shell Recharge pump, we are taking an important step in expanding our offer and bringing to Argentina this new technology, already proven worldwide, to offer our customers new experiences,” he explained.

For his part, Andrés Cavallari, the company’s Retail Director highlighted that Shell Recharge comes to expand its offer and accompany customers in the search for the mobility solution that best meets their needs.

Shell is one of the most recognized brands in the world and the most global in its field. In this sense, we are privileged to be able to bring to Argentina a product that is already available on a global scale, proven and adaptable to the needs of each market,” he added.
