Mexico is gearing up for an expansion in electric vehicle charging infrastructure in 2024, as revealed months ago by Gabriela Gallegos, the leader of electric mobility for ABB Mexico.
In an interview with Expansión, Gallegos highlighted the projected growth of 15 to 20 times the current number of electric vehicle chargers in the country.
According to previous data, Mexico had 1,189 charging points for electric cars in 2022. Although the total number of connectors remained constant, there was a significant shift in the ratio, now with one connector for every seven cars.

ABB: A Key Player in Mexico
Gallegos emphasized that the growth expectations are focused on the installation of more public chargers, noting that figures and comparisons often focus on private users, but it’s important to address the market’s needs regarding public charging infrastructure.
Moreover, one of the trends is the installation of chargers in shopping centers and service stations. These strategic locations allow users to increase the use of electric vehicles while performing everyday activities, such as shopping or stopping at gas stations.
The projected increase in charging infrastructure aligns with the continuous growth of the electric vehicle market in Mexico. As more manufacturers introduce electric models and environmental awareness drives the transition to more sustainable transportation options, the need for a robust charging network becomes imperative.
ABB, as a key player in the electric mobility sector, will play its role in bringing these projections to life. The company has been recognized for providing efficient charging solutions, contributing to the development of sustainable infrastructures worldwide.
