Chile: Launching the Sustainable Electromobility Acceleration Center

The University of Chile officially launched the Center for Sustainable Acceleration of Electromobility (CASE), with the aim of accelerating the adoption and impact of sustainable electromobility in the country.

The initiative seeks to position Chile as an engine of technological and industrial development for Latin America and help achieve the carbon neutrality goals set for 2050, through projects that improve the quality of mobility services and expand the population’s access to the benefits of electromobility.

Under the slogan “Challenges and opportunities of electromobility in Chile and the role of CASE in its development“, the presentation meeting brought together specialists to discuss the future of electromobility in the country.

Great Commitment

On the official website of the University of Chile, Marcelo Matus, Executive Director of CASE, said that the creation of this center “marks an important milestone on the road to more sustainable transport in Chile and represents a significant commitment by various institutions and industry leaders to promote electric mobility and sustainable transport”.

For his part, Marcos Orchard, Director of CASE and an academic from the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Chile, emphasized that the center’s main mission is to promote the adoption of electromobility through partnerships.

The center focuses on the development of innovative technological solutions and capacity building for the future, placing special emphasis on reducing emissions and meeting the Sustainable Development Goals.

“CASE is called to become an articulator of diverse efforts that public and private entities are making in the field of electromobility,” Orchard said.

Another focus of CASE is to articulate technological capabilities that are in universities and centers to address specific challenges, ranging from the organizational and regulatory to the more concrete, such as the design and construction of devices needed to operate the technology.

The creation of CASE represents an important step forward in the fight against climate change and the search for a more sustainable future for transportation in Chile.
