Road to X: Porsche’s Road to Electrification

The Latam Mobility Summit Mexico 2023, organized by Latam Mobility, the largest sustainable mobility community in Latin America, brings together leaders of the automotive industry to discuss the future of mobility in the region.

One of them is Porsche, represented by Luis Eduardo Santana, Head of Marketing of the brand in Mexico, who shared the brand’s vision regarding electrification and the challenges facing the automotive industry in the nation.

Santana began by highlighting Porsche’s position globally and in Mexico in driving sustainable mobility, as it has been a pioneer in the transition from hybrid to electric vehicles, a challenge that is also reflected in the Mexican market, defining the path under the denomination “Road to X”.

Today, Porsche has ambitious goals regarding the electrification of its fleet through Road to X, a term referring to the path towards a future in which combustion cars will be surpassed by electric cars.

According to Porsche’s estimates, this could happen in Mexico in 2025 or 2026, with a balance of 50% all-electric cars and 50% combustion cars in its offer.

Porsche Macan 100% Electric

Santana also announced the global launch of the all-electric Porsche Macan, a model designed to be more accessible and which will expand the range of the brand’s electric vehicles.

He also promised additional surprises in model electrification in the coming years, with the goal of 85% of Porsche cars being fully electric by 2030.

“All Porsche facilities worldwide are completely CO2-neutral. This aligns with the growing trend towards decarbonization in the industry,” he assured.

Also, he highlighted the importance of changing the mindset of consumers regarding electric vehicle charging.

To this end, Porsche offers three charging ecosystems: at home, office and destination. Thus, Santana mentioned that 70 to 80% of electric car users charge their vehicles at home, making it clear that outdoor charging infrastructure should not be an obstacle to the adoption of electric vehicles.

Key Player

To ease the transition, Porsche includes installation and chargers at home or office with the purchase of an electric vehicle. In addition, the brand has established more than 110 charging points in hotels and restaurants to serve the needs of its customers.

Finally, he commented on the expansion of the charging network on highways in Mexico, where they plan to implement 15 fast charging sites on the main routes of customers, with preferential rates for its users.
