Siemens Employs High-Tech to Boost Charging Infrastructure in Mexico

Along with the important manufacture of a large number of electric vehicles, companies such as Siemens eMobility are focusing on charging infrastructure, a key pillar for the massification of electric mobility.

In Mexico, the company has deployed all its technology and experience in this area to advise and offer a range of solutions within the charging ecosystem and network.

In this regard, Siemens‘ Electromobility Business Unit Director, Horacio Ramos, told T21 that the company’s work is supported by generation plants, transmission and distribution substations, and a great deal of knowledge to promote electric mobility in Mexico.

Guaranteed Ecosystem

Siemens designs and develops the recharging network from the moment the electricity supply from the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) arrives until the vehicle is recharged.

Among other actions, Siemens supports the CFE in the reinforcement of electric grids and in distributed generation with photovoltaic panels, to charge the vehicle when there is energy or to store the energy in batteries and then charge the units.

Ramos explained that the acquisition of an electric vehicle should be seen beyond the initial cost, because in operation the benefits are greater, such as reduced maintenance costs, tax benefits, reduced fuel costs and mitigation of environmental impact.

“The industry and private users are analyzing electromobility in the long term because of the benefits… but it is true that we are advancing at the speed that the country allows us, many of us would like to change to an electric vehicle, however, it is not so easy, because the infrastructure is not ready,” Ramos said.

Siemens is currently in a process of driving decarbonization in the operations of its suppliers, for example, with the adoption of electric vehicles and manufacturing with sustainable energy to contribute to a complete ecosystem.

It is not about the size of the city, but about the need of companies located in different areas of the country that have to comply with their decarbonization plans, that is why they are starting to encourage the use of electric vehicles,” explained Ramos.

It is worth noting that Mexico is experiencing significant growth in terms of the commercialization of electrified cars. From January to May 2023, 4,130 electric light vehicles have been registered, according to figures from the Administrative Registry of the Light Vehicle Automotive Industry.

Latam Mobility in Mexico

On October 10 and 11, “Latam Mobility: Mexico 2023” will be held at the Word Trade Center in Mexico City, at a key moment for the development and promotion of new technologies that make up the sustainable mobility environment.
